Party hat
Happy birthday Mr. Gropius! (click for a bigger picture)
The Smithsonian's Archives of American Art are digitizing a lot of their photos and letters of artists and arts-related figures. They estimate that at the end of the project (funded by a big grant from the Terra Foundation), in about six years, 1.6 million digital files will be available to the public. The collection so far is pretty great. Search or browse here.
The Library of Congress has been digitizing its print and photo collection for a while now. They also have a wonderful collection, but their website and search interface could use a re-design.
